| Mr. Chrisman, demonstrating the making of an alum-tawed pigskin [half] binding over beveled wooden boards, with period clasps. The entire text-block was re-sewn in herringbone style onto double raised cords, which were completely hand-made from Irish linen thread. Head and tail bands hand-worked with natural (unbleached) linen thread. All to historic correctness. Performed in a university setting in September/October 2006. Note the usage of the Hoole Spine Roller, invented by Mr. Chrisman in 1989, and now added to the line of tools of Hoole Machine & Engraving Works. |
