BBWS-Franz Hoffmann's Hair-Sheep is the finest available. This leather is 'classy'. These "Hair-Sheep" have the added strength of goatskin due to this special breed. Because of this, these skins have absolutely no double-facing, and while they are incredibly stable and easy to work, they are not 'stretchy' and difficult as is often the case with the plain, regular sheepskin / basil sheep.

BBWS recently bound an edition of 750 nineteenth century period-style bindings employing this hair-sheep (190-D/Antique Ochre). While we have used ALL of the fine Hoffmann leathers, we can attest to the wonderful paring, dying, covering and tooling properties of this leather. It also 'marbles' nicely!

Skins average 6.5 to 7.0 square feet, and have an average thickness of 0.75mm (1.25oz). They are also more 'squarish' in shape, so that the cutting yield is very nice indeed.
